KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — Malay Mail, in collaboration with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unirazak), will offer scholarships for a preparatory programme open to school leavers with at least five SPM or O-Level credits and their equivalent, including the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

The one-year programme previously cost RM12,500 when conducted in person, but was turned into an online module in order to assist students affected when the Covid-19 pandemic first hit.

The programme aims to prepare school leavers to take up tertiary education in areas of business, management, entrepreneurship, information technology, Islamic banking, accounting, taxation, education, economics, and public management and policy.

As a result of such collaborations between Unirazak and supporting entities such as Malay Mail, the foundation programme is non-binding and entirely free for accepted students, save for a RM100 registration fee.

According to the university, 324 students have already joined the Foundation In Arts Programme (FIA) Open Distance Learning (ODL), which was accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency, since it was launched in March 2021.

Of these, 91 have completed their programme, including 52 who chose to continue at Unirazak, 18 who were pursuing their bachelor’s degrees at other institutions while 21 were still undecided. Another 114 were still active whilst 119 left before completion for various reasons.

Last year, Unirazak offered free classes to children of armed forces veterans. It involved 2,500 children over a five-year period at a cost of RM12,500 per student, after which the students involved can choose whether to remain at the university or move to study elsewhere.

Form Five students in 2022 have just finished their SPM exam on March 15, 2023 and can expect their results on June 16, 2023.
