A fire that started on Mount Charleston, west of Las Vegas, on Sunday, June 28, had grown to around 5,000 acres by the early hours of Monday, incident information said.
The Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest Service said the fire was 0 percent contained and that evacuation orders were in place for Lee Canyon.
The National Weather Service said that the fire spread rapidly “due to increasing downslope winds” and warned drivers to “use caution” due to the smoke plumes.
