‘Magic Order’ Series Back in Development at Netflix as Mark Millar Sets New Spy Show

The series adaptation of Mark Millar’s “The Magic Order” is back in development at Netflix, with Millar also announcing a new slate of projects at the streamer.

In a blog post on Thursday, Millar shared that “The Magic Order” is back on track after the streamer opted last year not to move forward with the iteration that had been in the works.

“Some time away has given us a chance to come back with a completely fresh look at the material, and we should be getting into our new writers’ room very shortly,” he wrote. “The Magic Order” was in early pre-production when it was announced in October 2020 that it would not proceed as planned. The show is based on Millar’s comic book series of the same name.

Millar also announced that “The Magic Order” Volumes 2 and 3 will be released this fall. Volume 2 by Stuart Immonen will drop in October, followed “immediately afterward” by Volume 3 by Gigi Cavenago.

Next, Millar also revealed that he is working on a new spy comic and live-action series, though he was mum on the exact details.

“We’re hard at work on a six-episode live-action spy series right now, my first since ‘Kingsman,’ but a very different kind of property,” he wrote. “The writer is someone I’ve been a massive fan of for two decades, and he was the only person I approached. This has the potential to be one of the biggest franchises I’ve ever created.”

Finally, Millar announced that anime adaptation of “Super Crooks” is set to launch later this year with a first look at Annecy Festival.

“This superpowered heist comic about eight super-villains is jam-packed with action and told in 13 30-minute episodes lushly produced by Bones.inc,” he wrote. “Fans will be able to catch the first glimpse of this highly anticipated series at the Annecy Festival this June.”

Netflix acquired Millarworld in 2017 in its first-ever acquisition, with plans to develop both film and TV project. The first onscreen project to come out of that deal, a series adaptation of “Jupiter’s Legacy,” will bow on May 7.
