Madrid health workers demand better conditions

Reuters footage showed nurses standing outside the entrance to the hospital holding up banners reading "exhausted, mistreated nurses", as ambulances were seen arriving across hospitals in Madrid.

Spain's health minister urged authorities in Madrid on Saturday (September 26) to tighten restrictions in the coronavirus hotspot, warning that the capital's residents and surrounding regions were at "serious risk" without tougher curbs.

Experts have been warning Madrid for weeks that the numbers were rapidly worsening, with a high number of ICU beds occupied and over a third of hospital admissions in Spain.
