Madonna has returned her attention to making a biopic about her life after putting plans on hold to concentrate on her recent tour, according to reports.

The Material Girl singer, 65, has spent years trying to get the project to the big screen, with it finally being greenlit in 2020.

Award winning actress Garner, 30, was first attached to star in 2022 after undergoing a gruelling 11 hour audition process.

The Queen of Pop’s focus shifted however when she announced her Celebration World Tour, which the mum-of-six was forced to delay after being hospitalised with a bacterial infection.

Madonna played her last date in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, last month and is now said to be focusing on “fulfilling her dream” of getting the biopic made.

A source told The Sun: “Julia is still her lead actress and they have remained in touch for the past year, talking through ideas. They are committed to creating some magic.

“A range of secret meets are being organised with Universal Pictures to get the project nailed down,” they continued.

“There is a lot to work on with locking down the rest of the cast, arranging shoots and completing the script but the hope is that they can start filming in the next 12 months.”

The insider added that Madonna had felt films such as Freddie Mercury's Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John’s Rocketman “paved the way” for her film, but she wanted to ensure hers was 'more unique and dramatic.”

The Standard has contacted representatives for Madonna and Julia Garner for comment.
