Macy’s department store on Monday, June 29, staged the first of what it said will be several small fireworks displays in New York City ahead of the Fourth of July.
New York City’s official emergency notification system issued an alert ahead of the display.
“In celebration of the 4th of July, a five-minute Macy’s fireworks display will occur tonight between 9 – 10 PM and may be seen or heard in parts of LIC, Roosevelt Island, and along the East River. Spectators are encouraged to continue following safety and social distancing measures,” tweeted NYC Emergency Management.
The displays will run through July Fourth, on Saturday, with the final installment to be televised, Macy’s said.
Macy’s is keeping the locations of each display under wraps to prevent large crowds from gathering.
