Macy’s Parade: Watch Video As ‘One Piece’ Balloon Suffers Puncture But Ploughs On Bringing Back Memories Of Barney’s Demise

It wasn’t a Barney level of puncture, but the One Piece balloon at today’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade suffered a flesh wound when its hat caught on a tree.

Onlookers gasped when the manga character hit a snag, but the giant Monkey D Luffy balloon, which was making its parade debut, was able to carry on despite the rim of his straw hat becoming deflated after being puncture by the collision with the tree.

The videos below show the moment of impact and the balloon soldiering on to complete the parade.

The puncture brought back memories of the iconic scenes from 1997 when the Barney balloon ripped apart at the Parade amid high winds.

Today’s parade included inflatable balloons for Bluey, Kung Fu Panda, Paw Patrol, Minions and Spongebob Squarepants.

The parade was disrupted for a short time by a Pro-Palestine protest.

The event was temporarily paused when a group of about 30 protesters ran into the street and apparently glued themselves to the pavement of the route in New York City.
