Macron responds to Truss' 'friend or foe' remarks

STORY: Liz Truss said "the jury's out" when asked the question at a campaign event for the leadership of the ruling Conservative Party.

In response on Friday, Macron said that Britain is an ally of France and its people will always be friends of France - despite the occasional error made by its leaders.

"Britain is a friend of France, I don't doubt that for a second," Macron said when asked about comments by Liz Truss, the front-runner to become Britain's next prime minister.

"If France and Britain cannot say whether they are friends or enemies, then we are headed for serious problems," he added.

Since Britain's exit from the European Union, diplomatic spats have occurred between Britain and France over border controls and the management of migrants and asylum seekers.
