IPOH, Dec 6 — Six Perak Umno lawmakers led by Datuk Saarani Mohamad were summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning today in relation to an alleged plot to remove Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as mentri besar.
The five assemblymen are Datuk Sham Mat Sahat (Alor Pongsu), Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya (Rungkup), Maslin Sham Razman (Bukit Chandan), Khairil Shahril Mohamed (Bota) and Jurij Jalaludin (Lubuk Merbau).
Sham was the first to arrive at 12.30pm followed by Shahrul.
The last to enter the commission’s office at 5pm was Jurij.
At the time of writing, Jurij and Saarani still appear to be at the MACC office.
Both Khairil and Maslin told reporters earlier that they were called to assist investigations into the plot to topple Ahmad Faizal.
Maslin said he had brought with him the statutory declaration that he had signed in which he confirmed the overthrow plot.
The MACC summoned Perak executive councillor Abdul Aziz Bari on Wednesday over the same matter and questioned him for two hours.
When contacted by media, state MACC director Datuk Zainul Darus confirmed the commission had taken the statements from Saarani and the other assemblymen.
He did not name the assemblymen involved.
Saarani was previously reported as saying that five Umno assemblymen had been approached by Abdul Aziz who was portrayed as being the person behind the ouster conspiracy.
