With the launch of The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cocoa, the brand introduces an innovative new limited annual release series of single malts, which aims to progress its journey towards sustainable packaging.

Inspired by The Macallan’s deep-rooted connection to nature for nearly 200 years now, its latest Harmony Collection marks the brand’s foray into the world of sustainable packaging. The collection is aptly named so, stemming from the brand’s desire to live in harmony with nature. Fusing innovative techniques with materials from the natural world, the production of The Macallan Harmony Collection will see these materials reborn with a renewed purpose.

To kick off the new collection, The Macallan unveils The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, which came to fruition when The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan made a unique visit to Girona, Spain. There, Polly immersed herself in the world of chocolate and explored the natural chocolate-making process, unearthing its distinctive flavour profiles along the way.

The Rich Cacao variation of the Harmony Collection was brought about in collaboration with world-renowned pastry chef Jordi Roca, the youngest of the acclaimed Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca. In Girona, Polly visited his famed chocolate factory, Casa Cacao. Inspired by the passion, knowledge and creativity of Jordi Roca and master chocolatier Damian Allsop, Polly sought to create The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao — searching the sherry seasoned oak casks maturing at The Macallan Estate to identify rare, indulgent chocolate notes.

“For this expression, I sought out a specific chocolate note in The Macallan’s traditional sherry seasoned European oak casks, and combined this with a vanilla note imparted by sherry seasoned American oak casks to sweeten the slightly bitter chocolate note I had found,” Polly explains. “This exquisite single malt offers a delightful whisky and chocolate pairing experience and the chance to elevate The Macallan experience to a new dimension.”

Crafted from a harmonious combination of European and American oak casks, the result is an exceptionally rich single malt whisky characterised by a deep, dark chocolate profile — pairing perfectly with the richest chocolate for a luxurious sensorial experience. The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is a long finish: the distinct notes of oak, zesty lime and ginger linger as you indulge. Mixed with hints of chocolate fondant, honey, dates, vanilla and cinnamon, the blend makes for a bittersweet yet delightful flavour.

Paying homage to its chocolate inspiration, upon purchase you’ll find The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is encased in a beautiful, fully-recyclable and biodegradable presentation box, made using natural by-products in the chocolate-making process. The box is crafted using discarded husks from cacao pods, bringing together The Macallan’s craftsmanship with packaging techniques aimed at minimising waste.

Since it first began crafting its single malt whisky in 1824, The Macallan has long upheld its connection to nature and our natural surroundings. Rooted in its belief to give back more than take from this world, sustainability has been a constant guiding principle for The Macallan.
