Out of hundreds of names exposed in the PPP data, 98% used Bank of America

The release of the Paycheck Protection Plan (PPP) loan data was intended to bring transparency to the US’ $517 billion loan program to support small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. A Quartz analysis of the data shows that there are at least 842 occasions where the name of a loan applicant appears in a place it shouldn’t. In most cases it’s the result of an applicant’s name finding its way into the field for the city of the recipient’s mailing address.
