ALOR SETAR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) has provided an allocation of more than RM7 million which will be distributed to those affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) implementation.
Its chief executive officer Syeikh Zakaria Othman said the Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah had consented to the request for the allocation to help underprivileged groups such as low income earners and asnaf (eligible tithe recipients).
“It is expected to benefit more than 90,244 families. The LZNK is also in the midst of distributing 57,600 packs of rice and 172,800 canned sardines to 576 mosques in the state.
“The LZNK will continue to monitor and increase the supply from time to time to ensure continuous supply of food for the people in Kedah during the MCO period,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, Syeikh Zakaria said a total of 15,364 recipients would receive early monthly aid payments involving an allocation of more than RM4 million.
He said that RM340,000 had also been allocated by the LZNK to purchase three ventilators which would be donated to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here.
