If you ask me, Gisele Bündchen single-handedly revived the clog trend last month during New York Fashion Week. She wore nothing but a Frame denim jacket with a sky-high black pair, and now the wooden-soled footwear seems to be everywhere this season. While I can’t afford to splash out $2,000 on her exact pair of the Tom Ford Leather TF Clog, I did manage to get my hands on an equally chic and more wearable version.
Before the leaves started falling, I asked Detroit-based stylist Clare Pollard what shoes I should invest in for fall and winter, and she selected the Beek Woodpecker Más Shearling Clog. While there are lots of clogs to choose from, she noted the subtle design details that make this pair stand apart: a high (but not too high) 3-inch heel, a luxurious vegetable-tanned leather upper hand-nailed with bronze detailing, and last but certainly not least, the shearling-lined insole. “This clog ranks high on the cuteness factor but is also totally warm and cozy in the colder months,” she points out.

Each pair of Beek shoes is handcrafted with top-of-the line components and takes an average of 48 hours to make. This style in particular is made with Chilean pine wood, a leather-wrapped memory foam insole, genuine shearling, and of course, gorgeous leather certified by the LWG (Leather Working Group). As soon as the box arrives and you slip your feet into one of their shoes, you will understand the hype. And shoppers definitely do — not only has the clog has been one of the brand’s best-selling styles for two years in a row, but it sold out completely last year, according to Beek.
It isn’t your average clog, especially because of the ridiculously soft lining that keeps my feet warm and toasty. I also love that the just-high-enough heel one-ups the style factor, but somehow doesn’t take away from comfort. And in terms of what you can wear them with? Pretty much anything. “I wear clogs just like I wear a ballet flat, with a variety of denim and pant silhouettes including straight, skinny, bootcut, and wide leg,” Pollard adds. “Clogs add an extra layer of flattery with having a lift like a heel but without sacrificing comfort.” I also wear mine with skirts and dresses of all lengths.

As for sizing, the clog comes in whole sizes only, 5 to 11. Because I am a 9.5 and the brand recommends ordering up, I opted for a 10 and they fit perfectly. It comes in three colors: light tan, black, and fun leopard suede. If you love the clog but hate the heel, the brand also offers a more traditional version with just a slight platform, the Mallard Shearling Clog, which is also a solid option.
The Woodpecker Más Shearling Clog is definitely an investment, but you are paying for the highest quality craftsmanship and a timeless clog you can comfortably wear year after year. My advice? Order a pair ASAP for less with the code INSTYLE10 before they sell out yet again.
