While there was no shortage of glitz, glamour, and Gucci at this year's LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles, Lupita Nyong'o's show-stopping sheer burgundy gown may just have been the look of the night — which is saying something, since Jennifer Lopez arrived in a gold gown that oozed with her signature over-the-top style. Nyongo'o managed to get her fair share of attention, however, with a dress that brought together the color of the season and the visible underwear trend that's taken over the runways.

Nyongo's Gucci dress featured intricate panels of point d'esprit fabric and intricate lace. While the dress had a simple spaghetti-strap silhouette, the draped panels added volume to the skirt and a peek at her coordinating crimson bodysuit. She finished the look with a diamond necklace, matching stud earrings, and an inky manicure. The outing marked her first public appearance since her breakup with Selema Masekela, so many fans saw the sheer gown as the actress's revenge dress moment. Nyong'o and Masekela, a TV host and sports commentator, broke up last month after less than a year together.

Nyong'o recently opened up about her breakup, saying that she was leaning on her friend Palmer Hefferan in an Instagram post.

“Recently, when my life was turned upside-down from heartbreak, Palmer flew in swiftly to be by my side and help me through the hardest days as I adjusted to my new reality,” she shared on Instagram last week. “She made me delicious meals, she found me therapeutic activities to get my mind off things, she cried with me and made me laugh until I cried a more joyful kind of tear.”

Nyong'o went on to say that her pal gifted her with a furry friend to offer support during this time. Nyong'o and Hefferan met in drama school and built their friendship on a shared love of cooking, Us Weekly explained. "She did not tire of being of service to me, and the biggest gift she bestowed on my life was helping me get my first pet, Yoyo. Now every time I look at him and cuddle with him, I am reminded of the selfless love my sister from another mister showed me."

"I will never be able to pay her back for the kindness she has shown me, and the beauty of the friendship is that it is never about evening the score!" she continued. "But I have every intention to try… Thank you truly, deeply, P!"
