Lupita Nyong'o and her cat prove they could definitely survive in “A Quiet Place”

See what happened when the actress took the "Quiet Place" cat challenge on TikTok.

Would your cat survive the apocalyptic world of A Quiet Place? Lupita Nyong’o's clearly would.

The Oscar-winning actress recently starred in the prequel film A Quiet Place: Day One, which demonstrates how the alien apocalypse seen in John Krasinski’s original films first came about. It shows an invasion of Earth by aliens who are hypersensitive to sound and will kill anyone who makes noise near them. The key to survival in these films is — per the title — to be as quiet as possible.

The first two A Quiet Place films focused on the difficulty of being silent in a family with young children. A Quiet Place: Day One adds a new wrinkle: Cats. Nyong'o's character Samira is accompanied throughout the movie by her cat Frodo, which inspired viewers to wonder if they could keep their own cats quiet should they ever find themselves in a Quiet Place situation. Thus began the Quiet Place cat challenge on TikTok, where participants walk around with a cat in their arms waiting to see if the furball will make any noises that would alert the films' monsters. This week, Nyong'o tried the challenge out for herself.

"By popular demand!" the actress said in her TikTok video while holding her cat Yoyo. "We're gonna see if we would survive in A Quiet Place!"

Lo and behold, Nyong'o ran back and forth across her home while holding Yoyo and the cat never made a peep. Something can be heard at one point in the video, but according to Nyong'o's caption, "that sound was me." Afterward, she had a huge smile.

"Very proud cat mom right here," she wrote in the onscreen caption.

The partnership is fitting because Nyong'o didn't totally fall in love with cats until filming extensively with one for A Quiet Place: Day One.

"I was afraid of cats when I started this movie," the actress told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. "By the end of the movie, I was crying leaving that cat. Now I am definitely a cat mom. I have my cat's fur all over me, and I think of it as a symbol of affection, which I never imagined I would."
