Supporters of Brazil’s former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took to the streets to celebrate his victory over incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in the country’s presidential election on Sunday, October 30.
Footage by Thiago Firmino shows people celebrating da Silva’s win in Rio de Janeiro.
Lula had secured 50.8 percent of the vote with 99 percent of votes counted, while Bolsonaro received 49.1 percent, according to Brazil’s electoral authority.
Da Silva described the election as “historic” during a post-victory address to supporters in Sao Paulo, saying “the Brazilian people made it very clear that they want more, not less, democracy.”
