Lucifer resumes production on season 5 finale for Netflix

From Digital Spy

Lucifer fans have been waiting patiently impatiently for the second half of season 5, so they'll now be pleased to know that the return of the Netflix show is almost upon them.

The supernatural series has now officially resumed production on its season 5 finale, with filming set to carry straight through to its sixth and final season.

Production on season 5 was temporarily shut down back in March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and while episodes from the second half of the season are yet to air, it's just the finale that needs to be finished.

Aimee Garcia, who plays LAPD forensic scientist Ella Lopez, recently took to Instagram to document her return to the set, along with fellow cast members Rachael Harris and DB Woodside as they walked into the Warner Bros lot with their six-foot distance-keeping sticks.

In August, detective Dan Espinoza actor Kevin Alejandro revealed that the season five finale underwent some major last-minute plot changes to account for the unexpected sixth season.

"All of us went into it, and continued throughout the journey, up until the episode before the last one, thinking this was our series finale. That this [season five] was the show finale," said the actor, who directed the 5A finale.

"You can tell, I think... through the scripts and through the episodes that they didn't hold anything back, they were just pushing forward. Everyone was under that impression, until Netflix changed their minds," he laughed. "So it sort of threw us all for a loop!"

He added: "Obviously we're all super, super excited, just surprised. As a result, the team have had to make some tweaks to the season five finale, in order for us to get the ultimate season five possible."

Lucifer season four and 5A are available to watch now on Netflix, with season 5B arriving soon. Catch up on seasons one to three via Amazon Prime Video.
