‘Luca’ Filmmakers to Discuss Making of the Pixar Adventure in a Free PreVIEW Virtual Event
The filmmakers behind “Luca,” Pixar’s latest animated adventure, will discuss the film in a free PreVIEW event on Monday, June 21, at 10 a.m. PT. The movie, which opened Friday, June 18, at theaters and on Disney Plus, follows best friends Luca and Alberto, who are sea creatures masquerading as human boys as they explore an idyllic Italian resort town.
The virtual event, presented by the VIEW Conference in association with Pixar, features director Enrico Casarosa, producer Andrea Warren, production designer Daniela Strijileva, character art director Deanna Marsigliese, visual effects supervisor David Ryu and director of photography Kim White.

The “Luca” creative team will discuss the challenges they faced making the film during the COVID-19 pandemic, with everyone working from home and offer details about the production.
“’Luca’ is going to be the feel-good animated feature of the summer,” says VIEW Conference Director Maria Elena Gutierrez. “I am thrilled to welcome Enrico Casarosa and his team on to our virtual stage at VIEW Conference. I know they will entertain and educate us with their stories about the production of ‘Luca,’ and leave us inspired by the message of hope and friendship that it brings.”
The Italian setting of “Luca” is near and dear to the hearts of the officials behind the VIEW Conference, which takes place each fall in the northern Italy town of Turin. The event is scheduled to take place both in-person and virtually from Oct. 17 through 22.
The conference brings together top talents in the fields of computer graphics, interactive and immersive media, animation, visual effects, games, real-time rendering, virtual production, AI, VR, AR and mixed reality for a week of panels, workshops and presentations. VIEW Conference will offer another panel, this one in conjunction with ASIFA-Hollywood, on July 2 featuring Oscar-winning writer-director Brenda Chapman in conversation with ASIFA-Hollywood executive director Frank Gladstone. Chapman is one of the first female directors of animated films. She won an Oscar for her work on Pixar’s “Brave” and before that was one of the directors on DreamWorks Animation’s “The Prince of Egypt.” The virtual event will take place beginning at 10 a.m. PT.

The VIEW Conference is now open for submissions for its two competitions for short animated films, the VIEW Award and ItalianMix, which is specifically for Italian-made short films. Deadline for entries is Sept. 15.
VIEW Award entries must be 2D or 3D animated films of 30 minutes or less created after Jan. 1, 2020. An international jury drawn from the VIEW Conference speaker roster will award the €2,000 first prize.
Italian artists working individually or with a group may compete for the ItalianMix award and the winner will receive a Wacom tablet. Animated, experimental or documentary films of 30 minutes or less created after Jan. 1, 2020 will be accepted.
All dialog in any film entered must be in English or Italian or have subtitles in English or Italian. Each submission should come with a press kit, a project description, high-res still images of the work and director credits.
