Lovecraft Country spoilers for season 1, episode 10 'Full Circle' follow.

Fittingly for a first season that has been packed with ideas, Lovecraft Country delivered a finale that had a lot going on.

'Full Circle' did exactly that and saw the show return to Ardham where Tic and Leti's troubles all began in an attempt to protect their family, delivering some huge moments along the way.

With everything that was happening, it would have been easy to miss a very important callback to an earlier episode in the killer final scene. Before we go into it, major spoilers are ahead so look away now if you haven't seen the finale yet.

The finale started with Tic and Leti using the Book of Names in the ancestral space (along with the help of Tic's ancestors) to finally free Dee from the curse that Lancaster placed on her in episode eight.

They manage to save Dee, but it comes at the cost of her left arm which cannot be healed. It's OK though because her mum Hippolyta has a plan and we see her show Dee something, but it's not until the end of the episode that we realise what it is.

After Tic pays the ultimate price to ruin Christina's plan for immortality and remove magic from white people everywhere, we returned to the ruins of Ardham Lodge in the final moments of the episode to see Christina struggling to survive.

Dee arrives with Tic's shoggoth and gets revenge for Tic's death by crushing Christina's throat with her newly-acquired (and incredibly cool) robotic arm that Hippolyta had created for her.

But it's not just any old robotic arm, it's actually a very important one in terms of Lovecraft Country's future.

Cast your mind back to episode eight when Tic tells Montrose about his trip through the portal when he received the Lovecraft Country book written by his son in the future.

"I was only there for a second before the woman with the hood came in, shoved the book in my hand, pushed me back through the portal," he explains, before Montrose adds: "With the robotic arm."

We didn't see how Tic described her to Montrose as this conversation took place off-screen, but the finale raises the distinct possibility that this person in the future was actually a grown-up Dee.

Would Tic have recognised her and hidden the truth from Montrose? Or was it all so rapid that he didn't get a good look at the person who pushed him back through the portal?

Showrunner Misha Green wouldn't be drawn on confirming that it was Dee in the future ("no spoilers!") in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, but it's clearly something that could be revisited in season two if we get one.

Lovecraft Country is available to watch via NOW TV in the UK. US viewers can watch with HBO Max.
