There's a real buzz of anticipation for Lovecraft Country, and (most) critics seem to agree that the hype is highly justified.
Brought to screens by Misha Green, Jordan Peele and JJ Abrams, the HBO series is based on a novel of the same name.
The 10-part series centres around Atticus 'Tic' Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his uncle George (Courtney B Vance) and his childhood friend Letitia 'Leti' Dandridge (Jurnee Smollett), who embark on a road trip to Massachusetts in search of Freeman's missing father Montrose (Michael K Williams).
Using its own genre as a metaphor, as well as a social commentary, Lovecraft Country is set against the real-world horrors of Jim Crow's America while also introducing supernatural monsters too.
"In horror, there's a level of anxiety that your life can be taken at any moment," creator Misha Green explained to New York Times. "That's the Black experience."
Digital Spy named Lovecraft Country a "beautiful, dark, twisted, must-see fantasy", and confirmed that the show will "blow your minds." You can read the full review here.
