Lorraine Kelly was forced to miss her own TV show after coming down with a last minute illness while at ITV's studios.

The announcement that Kelly would be absent from her eponymous morning chat show was made on Good Morning Britain by Kate Garraway and Ed Balls.

Garraway told viewers: "In almost a first in her 30-year-plus history on breakfast TV, she’s actually gone home. She’s not well."

She added: "She’s got a bug. We’re wishing you very well Lorraine. I hope you’re getting better."

Garraway then confirmed that Ranvir Singh would be stepping in for Lorraine at the last minute: "Ranvir is to the rescue though, she’s on her way in to get herself ready for the show, so she’ll be here."

As Lorraine was starting, Singh detailed how she came to step in for the Scottish broadcaster. She revealed that she was woke at 7:18am and on the train into the studio by 7:30 to be ready to host the show at 9am.

Kelly later commented on her absence on Twitter, remarking that she was gutted to miss out on interviewing singer Adam Lambert: "When you have to be sent home from work early in the morning because you are suddenly attacked by a hideous bug and were looking forward to interviewing @adamlambert."

She also said she was glad not to pass on her illness to the current Queen frontman: "Beyond disappointed but imagine if I had infected him !!!!!!"

Earlier this year, Kelly hosted her show shortly after undergoing surgery to fix a problem in her shoulder.

At the time, she said: "I just had to remove some calcification and a little bit of bone and, yeah, I’m doing my physio and I’m all fine."

It is not clear how long Kelly will be off ill for.
