Supermarket shelves in Australia were stripped bare of household goods like toilet paper on March 3, with shoppers scrambling to hoard items as the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus across the country rose.
This footage, filmed at a Coles Supermarket in the Sydney suburb Merrylands, shows a nearly empty tissue and toilet paper aisle. One shopper appears to have packed his trolley full of rolls.
“This is severely crazy,” the woman filming the video says. “I have never, ever in my life witnessed this. Look at that man. Look at all the toilet paper in his trolley. What a hog.”
Both Coles and Woolworths, the largest supermarket chains in Australia, said they had increased deliveries to cope with the spike in demand for food items and household staples like toilet paper, ABC reported.
