Long Lines of Trucks Queue Outside Port of Dover

Truck drivers were stranded in gridlocked traffic near the Port of Dover, England, on Wednesday, December 23.

Many have been stranded at the port town since Sunday, when the border with France was closed due to fears over a new coronavirus strain. Lorry drivers are also stranded at Manston Airport.

The French government agreed to ease its travel ban from Wednesday, but travelers are required to have had a negative COVID-19 test.

Kent Online reported that a huge pop-up testing site had been readied at Manston Airport, but said there were no facilities at Dover, which remained “completely gridlocked.”

Drivers clashed with police on and have blockaded the port, according to Kent Online. This footage shows lorries on the A256 in Whitfield, about three miles north of the Port of Dover, on Wednesday. Credit: Karen Husk via Storyful
