London Residents Kayak Through Flooded Streets After Heavy Rain

The streets of London’s Hackney Wick neighborhood were submerged after heavy rain caused widespread flooding throughout areas of the city on Sunday, July 25.

The UK’s Met Office had issued an amber weather warning for London and surrounding areas. Authorities said “torrential showers” impacted southeast England until late on Sunday.

This footage shared by Amber van Boost shows a man kayaking around the neighborhood, using a piece of wood as a paddle, to see how far the flooding stretched.

Speaking to Storyful, Van Boost said that she was trapped on the first and second floors of her building while the ground floor experienced severe water damage.

On Monday, the London Fire Brigade said officers had received about 1,000 calls related to flooding. Credit: Amber van Boost via Storyful
