Logan Lerman will star alongside Joey King in Hulu’s developing limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones,” based on Georgia Hunter’s best-selling novel, TheWrap has learned.
Lerman will portray Addy, a Polish and Jewish 25-year-old who lives in Paris as an engineer, but who also builds his musical composing career. Addy is the middle child in his family, and he is able to mediate conflict between people with differences. He is also very handy. The character of Addy is inspired by the story of Georgia Hunter’s grandfather as a young man in the late 1930’s.
The logline for the series reads: “Inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of World War II, determined to survive—and to reunite. Based on the New York Times Bestseller, “We Were the Lucky Ones” is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds.”
The limited series is executive produced and written by Erica Lipez (“Julia,” “The Morning Show”), who also serves as showrunner. Thomas Kail (“Fosse/Verdon”) directs and executive produces along with Jennifer Todd who will also executive produce for Old 320 Sycamore. Adam Milch will executive produce and Hunter will co-executive produce. The Hulu series is a production of 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios.
Lerman will star in the upcoming second season of Amazon’s “Hunters” alongside Al Pacino. He can currently be seen in the hit film “Bullet Train” with Brad Pitt and Joey King. Lerman is represented by WME, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and attorney Bob Wallerstein.
King previously starred in “The In Between” and “The Kissing Booth” films as well as “The Act.” Projects on the way for King include the adaptation of Scott Westerfield’s dystopian YA series “Uglies” for Netflix and “A Spark of Light” based on the book by Jodi Picoult for Sony Pictures TV.
“We Were the Lucky Ones” joins Hulu Originals’ long line of book-to-television adaptations including “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Dopesick,” and “Nine Perfect Strangers.”
