Locals rescued in a digger from raging floodwaters as heavy rain inundates western India

A group of locals trapped by floodwaters when a river burst its banks in western India were rescued in the bucket of a digger on Thursday 1 September. The incident took place beside the Saraswati river in Nashik district of Maharashtra state. Video showed the rescued locals sitting in the bucket as well as inside the cab of the front-loader, which was able to drive through the waters inundating the road. According to reports, Maharashtra’s Nashik was lashed by heavy rains, triggering a surge in water levels in several rivers.
