KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Local streetwear giants Neonate and SVG Worldwide recently unveiled a new collection at Sepang International Circuit.

A collaboration themed Race Day between the two brands took to the racetrack as 83 models walked in front of over 3,000 guests.

The fashion show was a spectacular sight involving 300 crew members and 900 VIPs including supporters of the local fashion industry.

The night ended with performances by MK of K-Clique and other local hip-hop artists and DJs.

Neonate founder and creative director Karl Shafek said in a statement that embracing the fast, fresh and furious look of the theme was not an easy track.

“Having a theme like Race Day makes it both easy and hard at the same time,” Karl said.

“The undertaking for this collaboration is huge because not only do we have to cater to the demographics of both brands and make sure that while we stay true to our brand DNA, it has to have that element that speaks of the partnership.”

SVG Worldwide founder Ashraf Annuar added that the theme allowed both brands to go crazy but still retain each of their clothing’s signature style.

Ashraf said that the team went full speed ahead with the materials used for the collection’s pieces, wanting to achieve a glamorous high-fashion look.

“We have denim, leather, cotton, rayon, wool, canvas and a dress completely made out of beads and gemstones,” Ashraf said.

“Streetwear has come a long way since the term was first coined. The line has been blurred and you would even see T-shirts and baggy denim pants in a haute couture show as done by Demna for Balenciaga.”

Karl and Ashraf went as far as to create custom SVG X Neonate Race Day racing suits to achieve the aesthetic.

Karl thanked Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW), namely founder Andrew Tan for his continuous support and Komono Malaysia and Converse Malaysia for providing accessories.

Race Day by Neonate X SVG will be released in parts. For latest updates, visit the brands’ accounts on Instagram.
