The agent of Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto thinks his client will ‘most likely’ stay at Elland Road this summer, despite speculation over his future.

The 19-year-old has struggled for consistent minutes under Javi Gracia recently. However, he could be afforded more playing time under his replacement.

This news will come as a boost to Leeds fans, with the club currently enduring their second relegation battle in as many seasons.

As revealed by TEAMtalk on Tuesday, Gracia is expected to be relieved of his duties as Whites manager. This comes after his team failed to win a game in their last five league outings.

Now, Sam Allardyce his believed to be one of the top candidates to replace Gracia. Interestingly, he said in a recent interview that if he was Leeds manager, he would afford Gnonto more playing time.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcasthe said: ‘There are a couple of players who in my opinion should be playing. Wilfried Gnonto, the young Italian kid.

“Fantastic. He’s so positive, so driven, so direct with the ball, he gets the play up the field and he doesn’t mind defending as well.”

Gnonto agent: ‘We will discuss a contract extension’

Now, Gnonto’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, has suggested that he will be staying at Leeeds this summer. He also hinted that a new long-term deal isn’t out of the question, either.

As quoted by CalcioMercato, Vigorelli said: “We have all always believed in Gnonto’s qualities. He’s doing very well at Leeds and I think he’ll stay there, his path is there.

“The club is enthusiastic about his performances, after the season we will probably meet to discuss a possible contract extension, but there will be no problems.”

The agent added that while leaving Inter Milan for Leeds last summer was a difficult decision, Gnonto still thinks he made the right choice.

“For him, leaving Inter, a team he continues to support, was not an easy choice,” Vigorelli added.

“His is a good story to tell. Perhaps in Italy they believed him a little less, due to the lack of trust in certain young people.”

Since his arrival, Gnonto has made 20 Premier League appearances for Leeds, scoring two goals and making four assists in the process.

The youngster is widely considered to be one of the few positives in a dismal campaign for the Whites. Indeed, they currently sit in 17th place in the table – only outside the drop zone on goal difference.

As mentioned, Gnonto seemed to fall out of favour with Gracia, starting just one of Leeds’ last five matches. However, if Allardyce is appointed and his recent interview is anything to go by, the winger could play a key role in keeping them in the top flight.
