'Living seawalls' bring back biodiversity

These seawall panels boost ecosystems

LOCATION: Sydney Harbour, Australia

"We have seen a total of more than 90 species colonising these diverse panels and we see 30 to 40% more species on the panels in the living seawalls than on the unmodified parts of the seawall."

They are engineered to last for at least 20 years and support a changing climate

SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIVERSITY OF NEW SOUTH WALES SCIENTIA SENIOR LECTURER, CENTRE FOR MARINE SCIENCE AND INNOVATION, MARIANA MAYER PINTO, SAYING:"With climate change and the predicted sea level rise, probably construction will increase so having these sort of initiatives to mitigate the impacts this construction causes is extremely important.

The seawalls are also used in Wales and Singapore
