A report has revealed three Premier League clubs who are in contention to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is due to become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of June. With only eight Premier League appearances to his name this season, he hasn’t done enough to warrant an extension.

Indeed, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano wrote on Thursday that he expects Oxlade-Chamberlain to leave Liverpool on a free transfer this summer, following in the footsteps of Roberto Firmino and probably Naby Keita too.

It will be a shame for Oxlade-Chamberlain, who initially made a good impression at Anfield, but the inevitable outcome after several years of injury issues.

The question is, where will he go next? At the age of 29, he still has a few years left in the tank – and his Premier League career might not be over yet.

Now, an update from Football Insider has revealed that three clubs are already showing an interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of the summer.

According to the report, he could become a target for Southampton, Brighton or Leicester City.

Of course, Oxlade-Chamberlain began his career at Southampton, so they would be offering him a second spell. As things stand, though, they are in danger of relegation to the Championship, which might affect things.

Indeed, the report warns that they already know their interest would have to end if they lost their Premier League status.

Brighton could have best chance of luring Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alternatively, the midfielder could end up elsewhere on the South Coast with Brighton. They may even be able to offer him European football next season, since they are seventh in the Premier League at present and could actually overtake Liverpool by avoiding defeat from their game in hand.

Such a move would enable Oxlade-Chamberlain to link up with fellow former Liverpool man, Adam Lallana.

Interestingly, Football Insider says Oxlade-Chamberlain is a target who has been approved by Brighton boss, Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian tactician reportedly believes he would be a useful depth option at the Amex Stadium.

After having to put up with a rotation role at Anfield, it will be interesting to see if Oxlade-Chamberlain would demand being a regular starter at his next club before making any kind of commitment. But Brighton may fancy their chances of signing him nevertheless.

Leicester, meanwhile, will be looking over their shoulders as they – like Southampton – fight for Premier League survival. Hence, Brendan Rodgers’ chances of adding Oxlade-Chamberlain to his squad are still up for question.

It means Brighton could be in pole position for the former Arsenal man as things stand. But there are still a couple of months ahead for Southampton and Leicester to try and secure safety, thereby consolidating their own roles in the race for Oxlade-Chamberlain too.

During his Liverpool career, the former England international has played in a total of 145 matches, scoring 18 goals.
