Liverpool should look no further than three players including two from within the Premier League who would help Jurgen Klopp to preside over a new era of dominance, per one observer.
What Liverpool’s future transfer windows look like may depend entirely on who their owners are. Fenway Sports Group currently control the Reds and by and large, have overseen a successful period in the club’s history. Regardless, they have put the club up for sale.
Aside from on-field silverware, the Anfield stadium has been expanded and is due to see its capacity rise to around 61,000 by the start of next season.
Their relative lack of ambition in the transfer market has been a particularly sore spot among Reds fans, though they have shown a willingness to spend big when required. Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Naby Keita and Darwin Nunez all cost well in advance of £50m each.
The time for major investment is once again looming with Liverpool’s midfield in particular ripe for change.
Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of contract at season’s end. Elsewhere, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are both well into their 30s.
That’s led to mounting speculation the Reds will overhaul their midfield in 2023, and the biggest prize is Jude Bellingham.
Borussia Dortmund’s CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, recently confirmed Dortmund will have no choice tub to sell if Bellingham indicates he wants out. Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Real Madrid are all in the mix.
Lesser profile targets, such as Konrad Laimer and Youri Tielemans, have been touted in conjunction with January swoops.
However, according to pundit Frank McAvennie, Liverpool need look no further than three blockbuster acquisitions.
Bellingham, Rice, Son = Liverpool domination?
Aside from Bellingham, the former striker believes a window also seeing the arrivals of Declan Rice and Son Heung-min would be all Klopp requires to “win everything”.
Like Bellingham, Rice may cost upwards of £100m. His future is one day expected to lay away from West Ham, though competition is expected to be provided by Chelsea. Regardless, journalist Simon Phillips did recently claim the Reds have already laid the groundwork for a Rice capture.
Elsewhere, Klopp recently admitted not signing Tottenham ace Son is one of his biggest regrets in football.
Son rose to prominence during his time in the Bundesliga while Klopp was managing Dortmund. Alas, the the two greats never crossed paths, much to Klopp’s dismay.
“I think he [Klopp] needs players,” McAvennie told Football Insider.
“He needs quality players. If Liverpool could get Son, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham they will win everything. That is three huge players that would change the whole structure of Liverpool.
“I think that is all they need, they do not need to go anywhere else. The young boys they have got coming through are there to back up these players.
“If they can buy three players of that calibre, that is what they need to keep up with the Man City’s of this world.“
Of course, a triple addition on that scale would likely require the biggest net spend Liverpool have ever sanctioned in a single transfer window.
Liverpool fans will cling to the hope FSG will spring a surprise and give the green light. However, a spend of that size would, in all likelihood, only be sanctioned by richer and more ambitious new owners.
