Liverpool told to sign ‘perfect’ Premier League midfielder along with Bellingham this summer
Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks that Liverpool should make a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves along with Jude Bellingham this summer.
Liverpool are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp looks to rebuild his side.
The likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave this summer which will leave Klopp short of options.
Liverpool are also wary of their ageing players in the middle as the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are all over the age of 30.
Agbonlahor thinks that Liverpool need to sign three midfielders in the summer and that Neves could be a perfect fit.
“I think Liverpool could do with three midfielders,” Agbonlahor told Footy Insider. “Getting him [Neves], Bellingham and another would be perfect for them this summer. He’d be a great signing.
“It will hit them in their pocket, for sure, but they’ve got to do it. They need a fresh midfield if they want to get anywhere near the Premier League title again. It’s as simple as that.”
Neves has been at Wolves since 2017-18 and has regularly been linked with top clubs from around Europe.
His contract with Wolves runs until the summer of 2024 and so there is bound to be interest in the summer for him.
Neves has started in all but one of Wolves’ Premier League matches this season and has scored five goals in that time.
Liverpool would be wise to target other midfielders than just Bellingham as a deal for the Borussia Dortmund youngster is looking increasingly complicated.
David Ornstein recently revealed that it is becoming ‘increasingly unlikely’ that Liverpool will be able to sign Bellingham.
‘It does not mean their pursuit is off and no firm decisions have been made, although sources with knowledge of the matter think City and Real Madrid are in stronger positions at the moment,’ Ornstein clarified in The Athletic.
‘Considering Liverpool will finish this season empty-handed in terms of trophies (other than August’s Community Shield victory over City), sit seven points outside the Champions League spots after 26 of their 38 games, have expiring contracts and are ageing in parts of the squad, some major calls are approaching, and recruitment work is taking place on multiple fronts and with various options.
‘Such factors will impact the budget and, in turn, Liverpool’s ultimate hopes of landing Bellingham.’
