Report claims Liverpool put forward up for sale at £62m with Klopp reaching difficult decision on summer exit
Liverpool are reportedly ready to listen to offers for one of their most popular stars this summer, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly deciding the player can move on if their £62m valuation is met.
The Merseysiders are gearing up for what will be a major summer rebuilding programme this season. Indeed, having slipped off their usual lofty perch, Liverpool at one stage in the season found themselves ‘slumbing it’ in the mid-table positions.
During their malaise, the club relinquished their grip on both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. And while their improvement in the league has rekindled hopes of a top-four finish, they are likely to finish the season without any silverware.
Indeed, their final hopes of winning a trophy rest entirely on overturning a 5-2 deficit to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
As a result of this season’s apparent fall from grace, Klopp will be charged with effectively rebuilding his Liverpool side. To that end, Danny Murphy recently suggested six players that need to move on as part of that process.
Klopp’s main focus of the summer will most certainly be on bringing in new midfielders. Jude Bellingham is reportedly very much a top target, despite a deal for him likely to cost well in excess of £100m.
The Reds, though, also have other targets in mind and reports claim they could make as many as three new signings in their engine room.
Liverpool are also reportedly considering options to bolster their defence. While Virgil van Dijk is a mainstay of the side, both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have struggled to find their best form this season. Matip, with just a year left on his deal, could be allowed to move on.

Liverpool willing to sell Diogo Jota for huge fee
One man whose exit at Anfield this summer has been confirmed is that of Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian will depart Anfield after eight seasons; the legendary forward moving on as a free agent. And while his next destination remains something of a mystery, his agent has made Klopp a promise that will make the German smile.
Clearly Klopp is well blessed for attacking options and the two parties clearly feel a parting of ways is the best way forward. And even with Firmino leaving, Liverpool are extremely well blessed for attacking options.
Now it seems another departure in their forward department could be set to leave too. That’s after Football Transfers reported that Liverpool are reluctantly preparing to listen to offers for Diogo Jota.
The Portuguese forward has been a massive success at Anfield since a £40m move from Wolves in summer 2020. He has 34 goals in 99 appearances for the club, adding 12 assists in that time. Boasting a goal contribution every 2.15 appearances, Jota has proved a real crowd pleaser for Liverpool.
However, injuries have limited him to just 14 appearances in all competitions this season.
And with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez settled as the main front three, Jota appears to have fallen down the pecking order.
They also have soon-to-return Colombian star Luis Diaz to call on too, further underlining their rich plethora of options.
As such, the report claims Klopp will reluctantly look to cash in on Jota.
They claim the Reds are willing to consider his sale to help with their rebuilding programme. However, with a £62m (€70m) asking price, Jota will not come cheap.
Injuries have blighted Liverpool star
The player, however, can certainly count himself unlucky if he were to depart Anfield.
A dependable figure, the 26-year-old is a hugely popular figure at the club. And but for injuries, Liverpool may not even have gone out and signed the man in Gakpo who has effectively taken his place.
Jota recently lifted the lid on his injury frustrations this season. And having missed four months with a calf injury, he spoke of his annoyance to the Liverpool Echo.
Jota recently opened up about the injury which kept him sidelined for around four months of the season.
“I had a strange calf injury,” Jota told the Liverpool Echo. “They said to me they haven’t seen it before, most of the people, so we needed to ask for the help of some specialists as well to try and get over it and of course to give it a little bit more time because of the complexity and just to be safe.
“But yes, it was very hard, a long time. The results, to be honest, didn’t help as well so it was very frustrating to see things happening and not be able to help in any way – well apart from the dressing-room talks, but not on the field.
“Like I said, I felt good on the pitch at Crystal Palace and I feel improvement in each game I have. Hopefully I can have more impact on the team. I know we need goals and I want to contribute to the goals as well.”
