Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool and Man Utd target, Youssoufa Moukoko, is in talks regarding his future, and shed light on Borussia Dortmund’s favoured outcome.

The Dortmund sensation is fast becoming one of Europe’s most in-demand teenagers. Jude Bellingham currently holds that distinction, though if he moves next summer, Moukoko may fill the void.

Moukoko earned a place in Germany’s World Cup squad on the back of several eye-catching displays in the Bundesliga this season.

He’s returned six goals and four assists in 14 league appearances thus far this campaign – remarkable numbers for someone so young.

However, Moukoko’s current deal in Dortmund is due to expire next summer. As such, talk of a cut-price January exit for a fraction of his true value has swirled.

On that front, Man Utd and Liverpool have both been linked with bringing the talented teen on board. It’s been Jurgen Klopp’s Reds who’ve drawn the strongest links and the German’s manager’s connection to Dortmund has been tipped to serve them well.

As with all rising German stars, Moukoko has also been indexed to Bayern Munich. When Moukoko recently discussed his future while on international duty with Germany, Bayern goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, cheekily called out for the striker to join him in Bavaria.

Football Insider previously reported Moukoko was poised to sign with England-based football agency, Unique Sports Management, when he turned 18. That was reportedly with a view to lining up a move to the Premier League.

Moukoko celebrated his 18th birthday three days ago on November 20, though remains represented by the Wasserman player agency.

The non-switch was perhaps the first sign Moukoko’s immediate future may not yet lay outside of Germany. Now, Fabrizio Romano has nudged Moukoko’s future further in that direction by revealing he’s in talks to stay at Dortmund.

Moukoko in talks with Dortmund, though transfer hopes not over

However, that’s not to say Liverpool and Man Utd’s hopes are over completely. Indeed, Romano went on to detail Dortmund’s preferred outcome that will ultimately see Moukoko sold.

“From what I’m told, at the moment there are still no advanced negotiations between Bayern and Youssoufa Moukoko,” Romano said via his YouTube channel.

“It’s still an open situation. Moukoko is speaking to Borussia Dortmund, because Borussia Dortmund want to extend his contract, also with the potential plan to sell him at the right moment, as they did with Haaland, as they did with Sancho, as they will with Jude Bellingham. So with a very clear plan to sell him at the right moment.

“It’s up to Moukoko, but at the moment, nothing advanced with Bayern, and many clubs interested.”

Romano went on to suggest clubs in England, Italy and Spain are all monitoring Moukoko’s progress.

Dortmund hold a well-earned reputation for signing young stars with huge potential and polishing them up into bona fide superstars. The aforementioned Sancho, Haaland and Bellingham are prime examples.

While that policy has served them well, it is a weakness that has ensured they’re rarely able to challenge Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. It’s also a policy they now intend to uphold with Moukoko.

Moukoko seems destined to remain in Dortmund for now, especially after speaking about “trust” when referencing Dortmund boss Edin Terzic earlier this month.

If Moukoko does pen fresh terms, Liverpool and Man Utd’s transfer hopes will be kicked down the road for an extra year or two yet, potentially even longer.

A far greater fee will be required at that stage if the striker continues to develop at such a rapid rate, though he’ll also be a more rounded star at that time.
