Liverpool are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Mason Mount, with the Chelsea star’s move to Anfield now described as ‘highly likely’.

Mount is out of contract at the end of next season and extension talks have come to a standstill, with the England international wanting pay parity with Chelsea’s top earners.

Reports suggest Liverpool are after at least two midfielders in the summer, and Mount has been widely reported as one of their top targets.

talkSPORT claim Jurgen Klopp sees Mount as an ‘ideal addition’ to his squad as he seeks an overhaul and ‘sources close to Mount have even suggested a switch to Anfield as being highly likely’.

Liverpool are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the 24-year-old, who came through the academy ranks at Chelsea.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman is expecting Mount to “move to another Premier League club” this summer.

“I can see [Mount] moving to another Premier League club, but I could say that about any Chelsea player. Chelsea have so many players in their team that something has to give,” McManaman told Betfred.

“They have 30 or so professional players in their squad right now and that’s not even counting the players they’ve got out on loan, so if you’re a Chelsea player, then you’d be knocking on the door of the manager, or whoever’s making those decisions, and asking what on earth is going on and if you’re going to play.

“If you’re Mason Mount, then you’re going to want to play every single game and if you’re suddenly in limbo because you don’t know what’s going on with all the new players getting brought in around you, then you’re going to want to know what’s going to happen regarding your future.

“A number of Chelsea players have to leave anyway because it’s just chaos for a manager to deal with it all, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if one of them was Mason and there would be a host of Premier League clubs that would take him.”

He also feels that Liverpool will be able to sign Bellingham and Mount if the players are open to a move to Anfield.

“In regards to Liverpool going in for Mason, then it all depends on finances. I could see them getting two marquee signings, no problem at all. I don’t mean in the sense that they can bring in Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé, because that’s far too much money,” McManaman added.

“I don’t know how much Mason Mount would cost but I do believe Liverpool could afford to bring in two good midfielders because I believe Liverpool have the finances this summer, I really do.”
