Frank McAvennie has detailed how he feels Sadio Mane will not “bother” with keeping his allegiance to Liverpool, amid Chelsea links.

Mane is one of Liverpools modern day icons. He played 269 times for the Reds, scoring 120 times and providing 48 assists during that time.

After years without success in the Premier League and in Europe, Mane was part of the side that brought Liverpool back to the top.

He bagged 18 goals alongside nine assists as the Reds won the league in 2019/20. In Liverpool’s 2018/19 Champions League winning campaign, the forward scored four times and assisted three goals.

Mane was part of a sensational attacking trio, alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino. Those three are sure to be looked back at as legendary figures among Liverpool fans when their careers come to an end.

The trio was split up in the summer, when Mane decided his career at Anfield had run its course, and he moved on to German side Bayern Munich.

So far for the Bundesliga giants, he’s scored 12 goals and provided six assists in all competitions. However, things don’t seem to be running all too smoothly, as TEAMtalk revealed recently Mane is “looking likely to leave” the club.

A move to Chelsea has been mooted, and that has gathered pace, with a journalist suggesting the Blues have held initial talks with the forward already.

Mane tipped to burn Liverpool bridges

A move to Chelsea might cause an upset among the Liverpool faithful. Indeed, one of their most iconic figures in recent seasons joining a Premier League rival so soon after leaving them will surely not go down well.

Former top-flight footballer McAvennie feels Mane will not have his Liverpool past in his mind as he weighs up a move to Chelsea.

“I do not think players bother about that,” he told Football Insider.

“I do not think there is that allegiance anymore. Me, I could not do it. Mane from Liverpool to Chelsea, it is not really as big a problem nowadays.”

Chelsea don’t need Mane

McAvennie also feels Mane would do a great job at Chelsea, while a return to Liverpool would also see him have a big impact.

“I would love to see him back at Liverpool because they have missed him. He would do a great job at Chelsea,” he added.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if, were Mane to return to England, he did well. Indeed, he’s scored more than 100 Premier League goals across spells at two different clubs.

However, Chelsea’s squad is rife with attackers. There are nine genuine attacking players, as well as a few men who can provide an option in the forward line.

The Blues are also set to welcome Christopher Nkunku into the mix this summer. They will not have any success if they don’t give any of their assets the time to perform.

As such, it feels wise to stick with what they currently have, or ship out a number of stars to accommodate Mane.
