Liverpool, Chelsea must pay over £100m to sign Newcastle star amid ‘advanced talks’ claim
Reports suggest that Newcastle would only consider offers in excess of £100m for Bruno Guimaraes, amid interest from Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
The highly-rated midfielder is thought to be on the verge of agreeing a new contract with the Magpies, though, which could scupper the plans of his potential suitors.
Guimaraes signed for the Magpies from Lyon for £40m in January 2022 and his impact on the team so far has been overwhelmingly positive.
The 25-year-old has made 61 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 10 goals and making six assists in the process. The midfielder was arguably their most important player as they finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season. His performances definitely haven’t gone unnoticed, either.
As reported by Football365, Liverpool allegely made a late £100m bid for Guimaraes before the English transfer window closed, which was swiftly rejected by Newcastle.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Newcastle could be tempted into selling Guimaraes for €120m (approx. £103m).
The report claims that Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid all hold an interest in the Brazilian, who has been a consistent starter under Eddie Howe.
The manager is looking to secure Guimaraes’ services for the foreseeable future, with the midfielder currently in talks over a new deal at St James’ Park.
As per Brazilian outlet IG, Newcastle are in ‘advanced talks’ with the midfielder, with just a few ‘details missing’ before it will be made official.
They claim that Paris Saint-Germain are also ‘monitoring’ Guimaraes and ‘regret’ not signing him from Lyon when they had the chance. So there is certainly no shortage of interest in his signature at the moment.
His current deal is valid until 2026, but Newcastle are evidently keen to keep him at the club for as long as possible. One of the things that will be interesting is whether or not Guimaraes insists on including a release clause in his new contract, which will give an indication as to what his long-term aims are.
Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid or indeed PSG could still make an approach for the Brazilian in January regardless, but Newcastle will do everything they can to keep him.
