Liverpool have made a unique offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham that they hope will see them beat Real Madrid to his signature, according to reports.
The 19-year-old moved to Dortmund in 2020 from Championship side Birmingham City and has gone on to develop into one of the best midfielders in world football.
His performances for Dortmund and England over the past couple of seasons have seen some of the biggest clubs in world football linked with him.
And widespread reports claim he will leave Dortmund in the summer transfer window and that it is just a matter of deciding which club to join.
Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City have been rumoured to be the three frontrunners for Bellingham with all of them apparently leading the race to sign him at various points over the last few months.
And now Spanish publication Nacional claim that Liverpool have made a ‘cheat offer’ in an attempt to knock their rivals out of the race for Bellingham.
Real Madrid have had ‘very advanced conversations’ about Bellingham and they are still hoping that they can ‘take advantage of the fact that nothing is closed yet’.
The newspaper adds that Dortmund want the bidding to start at €140m (£124m) with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in ‘no doubt that it is worth making an investment of this type’.
Bellingham is a player who ‘fits perfectly’ into what Klopp is trying to build at Liverpool and he has called ‘on the board to do everything possible’ to sign the England international this summer.
Liverpool have a ‘trick offer prepared’ with the Reds prepared to pay a higher salary than Real Madrid and offer him a guaranteed role in their team, something which Los Blancos aren’t prepared to do.
But the real ‘trick’ is the Reds’ plan to ‘offer a job to Mark Bellingham, Jude’s father, who also acts as his representative’ with Bellingham’s dad set for a potential scouting role.
Liverpool also ‘may have just brought together the entire Bellingham family’ with the Premier League club also ‘taking an interest’ in his brother Jobe, who plays for Birmingham City.
Man Utd have been linked but former defender Gary Neville doubts he could join if rumours of the club’s new £200,000-a-week salary cap are true.
Neville wrote on Twitter: “Not sure why any radical new policy is being introduced if new owners are imminent.
“Capping wages is a radical policy. Rules out [Declan] Rice, [Jude] Bellingham and others in that bracket.
“Any new owners would probably want to enter the running for these types and probably Mbappe as well. 200k won’t get you Rice or Bellingham let alone [Kylian] Mbappe!”
