Seize the Grey is the winner of the 149th Preakness Stakes.
Favorite and Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan came in second, ending a bid for the first Triple Crown since Justify pulled that feat off in 2018. For Seize the Grey trainer D. Wayne Lucas, it's a seventh Preakness Stakes win and a 15th overall win in Triple Crown races. The win marked his first at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore since 2013, when he won with Oxbow.
The Justify and the other recent Triple Crown winner, American Pharaoh in 2015, were both trained by Bob Baffert, whose horse Imagination finished in seventh.
The Woodlawn Vase will be presented to the winner of the Preakness this afternoon. It's valued at over $4 million, which makes it one of the most valuable trophies in all of sports.
The Woodlawn Vase is the first trophy ever created by Tiffany & Co. in 1858. The award is the oldest continuously contested trophy in the United States. It is only moved once each year to present to the winner of the Preakness Stakes. Learn more: https://t.co/qaeIhTcvEHpic.twitter.com/o3qzltycPB
Ray Lewis has given the call for riders up, and the horses are getting set to load in to the gate. Just as the horses and jockeys are making their way to the starting gate, the sun has come out at Pimlico, peeking through the clouds for the first time this afternoon. The track will be muddy — the first time the Preakness has been run in officially muddy track conditions since 1939.

Balnikhov (5-1) wins Dinner Party Stakes on turf in final race before the main event
On a very wet turf track, as rain continues to fall at Pimlico, it was the Irish horse Balnikhov (5-1) taking first in the $500,000 Dinner Party Stakes with Crabs N Beer (14-1) second and Running Bee (9/5) third. The appetizers are now over, about 50 minutes away from the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes, which will be run on a bit of a muddy track.
In the final sprint race before the Preakness Grooms All Bizness (5-1) took first in the $100,000 Jack McKay Turf Sprint over 5 furlongs (5/8 mile). Just one race remains before the main event, the 149th Preakness Stakes in Race 13 of the day.
Rain is expected to continue in the Baltimore area throughout the rest of the afternoon. While track conditions are currently listed as "good," the precipitation could lead to a muddy track for the Preakness Stakes.

Legendary trainer Bob Baffert has been persona non grata at the Kentucky Derby for the last couple of years because of a suspension following his 2021 Derby winner Medina Spirit failing a post-race drug test. That three-year ban is up after this season, so he's likely to be back at Churchill Downs next year, but the suspension stemming from that incident at both the Preakness and the Belmont are up, and he has one horse, Imagination, in the Preakness today. He did train morning line favorite Muth, who was scratched earler in the week.
Temperatures are in the mid 60s this afternoon under overcast skies, with an 80% chance of rain throughout the afternoon. Shortly after 3 p.m. ET, the track is already muddy, but the rain has taken a break with more expected before Race 13, the Preakness Stakes, with a post time set for 6:50 p.m. ET.
