Patriots vs. Jets result: Aaron Rodgers leads blowout win while Drake Maye makes garbage-time debut

If New York Jets fans were asked to realistically visualize how they wanted their "Thursday Night Football" game against the New England Patriots to go, it might have looked a lot like the actual game.

Led by a strong night from Aaron Rodgers, who was 27-of-35 for 281 yards and two touchdowns, the Jets steamrolled their old bullies 24-3 to improve their record to 2-1. Overall, they outgained the Patriots 400-139.

The Patriots offensive line allowed a brutal night for Jacoby Brissett, and they were later asked to protect No. 3 overall pick Drake Maye in his NFL debut. The former UNC star 4-of-8 for 22 passing yards, plus 12 rushing yards in a single drive.

Here's how it all went down on Yahoo Sports:

LIVE COVERAGE IS OVER56 updates
  • FINAL: Jets 24, Patriots 3

The Patriots reached the Jets' 7-yard line but the game will end their. A thorough dismantling by New York, who outgained New England 400-139.

  • And now Maye scrambles on 3rd-and-3 and gets slammed down for a gain of 1. Patriots go for it on fourth and get it with a run by Antonio Gibson.

  • Maye's first pass: a near-pick in the middle of coverage.

  • Ooh, here comes No. 3 pick Drake Maye to make his NFL debut in garbage time.

  • We're in the "Al Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit discuss Shohei Ohtani" segment of the game.

  • Another Jets sack, another Patriots fourth down. They have 102 total yards with less than nine minutes remaining in the game.

  • FIELD GOAL: Jets move up three touchdowns in fourth quarter

This thing is all but over. At this point, the Patriots' priority might just be keeping Brissett healthy.

  • FUMBLE: Chuck Clark gets the ball back for Jets

Clark ran in and ripped the ball out of Rhamondre Stevenson's hands. It remains all Jets here, even if they're not converting on 3rd-and-33.

  • And the Jets get stopped on 3rd-and-33.

  • And it all ends with another sack, which pushes them back to the 45-yard line on fourth down. Now they're punting. Brutal.

  • Out of nowhere, the Patriots ripped off plays of 22 and 19 yards on their first two plays of the drive to reach well into Jets territory.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Jets keep the rout going with Garrett Wilson TD

That's Aaron Rodgers' first TD pass to Wilson, a year later than everyone was hoping.

  • He's 40 years old but he moves like he's only 33.

  • Patriots open the second half with more of the same. The gain six yards total on a quick three-and-out and the Jets will take over on their own 33 after a nice punt return.

  • HALFTIME: Jets 14, Patriots 3

Aaron Rodgers is 15-of-20 for 170 yards and a TD. Jacoby Brissett is 7-of-9 for 36 yards. The Jets are outgaining the Patriots 252-40. It's honestly a wonder the margin isn't bigger right now.

  • Rodgers misfires on a pass to Garrett Wilson on 3rd-and-10 with 14 seconds left, leaving Greg Zuerlein to attempt a 45-yard field goal. The Patriots catch a break when he hooks it wide left.

  • The Jets have once again driven into Patriots territory, this time right after the two-minute warning. Rodgers has three timeouts to work with before halftime.

  • FIELD GOAL: Patriots get on the board from 44 yards

It took 49 yards in pass interference yardage, but the Patriots will take it after how this game began.

  • The Patriots o-line is struggling out there. They get stopped before the red zone and are now attempting a 44-yard field goal.

  • And then the Jets bale out the Patriots with pass interference by DJ Reed. Now they're in Jets territory.

  • That might have been an early whistle. Jets safety Chuck Clark zoomed into the backfield and had Brissett, but couldn't get him down immediately. The refs blow the play dead as Brissett finds Antonio Gibson on a lateral, which probably cost the Patriots a few yards. 3rd-and-9 now after 2nd-and-1.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Refs give Breece Hall his TD

One commercial break later, the Jets are up two touchdowns and having little difficult with a Patriots team that was tormenting them just a few years ago.

  • Breece Hall was ruled short of the goal line, but replay seems to pretty clearly show he had the ball across the plane before going down. Jets HC Robert Saleh challenges the ruling and New York should be up 14-0 in a few moments.

  • Fun wrinkle. Jets bring in 295-pound defensive lineman Solomon Thomas in as a fullback. It was a fake, but Thomas still flattened a rusher (Rodgers' pass was incomplete in the end zone)

  • Jets are on the move.

  • Oof, Jets send a blitz on 3rd-and-7 and Brissett takes the sack with some open receivers. Then left tackle Caedan Wallace gets called for illegal formation.

  • Jets QB is working quickly.

  • LeBron approves.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Jets take the lead on Allen Lazard screen pass

Lazard caught a lightning-quick pass from Rodgers and made the CB whiff to reach the end zone. It's 7-0 New York after an eight-play, 73-yard drive.

  • The Jets are in NE territory after Patriots LB Jahlani Tavai tries to body slam Breece Hall and gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
