College football Week 4 results: Clemson, Michigan and Utah all pick up big wins

Week 4 of the college football season featured the start of conference play for many teams and it didn't disappoint.

Clemson got things started off with a thorough domination of conference rival NC State, going off for 45 points in the first half for an easy win that shows it's right there in the mix with Miami at the top of the ACC.

The early games also featured some history making. James Madison scored more points in the first half against North Carolina than it ever had before in a wild 70-50 upset (UNC had also never allowed that many points in a half before Saturday). Later, Temple kicker Maddux Trujillo drilled a 64-yard field goal — the longest kick in 16 years and just one yard shy of Martin Gramatica's record.

In the afternoon window, No. 18 Michigan toppled No. 11 USC in a way only the Wolverines could, essentially winning solely with their ground game. In another ranked-on-ranked matchup, No. 12 Utah held off No. 14 Oklahoma State for a Big 12 win despite Utes QB Cameron Rising sitting out another game.

Later on, Colorado delivered the excitement for the night as Shedeur Sanders connected on a last-gasp TD to send the Buffs to overtime, where they'd win it as the Colorado fans stormed the field not once, but twice. And No. 6 Tennessee had no problem dispatching No. 15 Oklahoma in their showdown in Norman.

And to cap the night, BYU upset No. 13 Kansas State with a 38-9 beatdown in Provo.

Here are the winners and losers for college football's Week 4.
