Greta Gerwig's Little Women successfully transported viewers back to the 1860s in its adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's novel, with its Oscar-winning costume design and gorgeous set production. Well, for the most part anyway.
Now, as the movie becomes available to watch digitally in the US, superfan Madelyn Rancourt has pointed out that if you look really closely in one particular scene, you can spot a couple of items that are certainly not period-specific.
It's Game of Thrones' coffee cup-gate all over again...
Pointing out the mistake via her TikTok account, Madelyn – who saw the film in cinemas seven times – explained that both a black Hydro Flask and a plastic water bottle can be seen in the background when the March family descend upon the home of Timothée Chalamet's Theodore 'Laurie' Laurence to pick up their sister Amy (Florence Pugh).
The video quickly racked up over 100,000 views, as well as 100 comments. In the replies section, a few watchers argued that Gerwig purposefully left in the drinks containers to follow in the footsteps of Sofia Coppola, who famously featured a pair of Converse trainers in Marie Antoinette.
Madelyn doubled down with a follow-up video too, where she recalled how Gerwig, Chalamet and fellow cast members Laura Dern and Saoirse Ronan actually broke down the scene for Vanity Fair prior to the movie's release – and all four failed to address the "slip-up."
"They didn't even mention it, like they didn’t even notice," she said in disbelief.
