A new report by the Geneva-based Insecurity Insight and the University of California, Berkeley’s Human Rights Center identified more than 1,100 threats or acts of violence against health care workers and facilities last year. Researchers found that about 400 of those attacks were related to COVID-19, many motivated by fear or frustration, underscoring the dangers surrounding health care workers at a time when they are needed most.

In a shakeup at ABC News, David Muir will now lead breaking news coverage for the network, including nationally important news and special reports, alongside his continuing “World News Tonight” anchor duties, an individual with knowledge of the matter tells TheWrap. ABC News declined to comment. The shift comes following a huge year for Muir, who has anchored “World News Tonight” since 2014. For the last 5 years the show has been the most-watched newscast in America, and it was consistently the number one rated news program in the U.S. in 2020, driven by ANC News coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. “World News Tonight With David Muir” won the 2019-2020 season over its broadcast competitors in every major demo, including total viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. Meanwhile George Stephanopoulos, anchor on “This Week” and “Good Morning America” will handle such items during the morning. Stephanopoulos was previously known as ABC News’ chief anchor, but the title will no longer be used for any of the network’s on air personnel. A “cheeky” little tree snake was pulled from a garden statue in Tewantin, Queensland, by a local snake catcher.Noosa-based snake catcher Luke Huntley took the statue from a residence when he was called to another emergency job, planning to remove the snake and return it to the Tewantin retirement village, where it belonged.The video shows Huntley hosing the statue to give the snake some “gentle encouragement” and flush the reptile out. The snake pops its head out of the statue before the catcher is able to get a hold of it for a safe removal.“The ornament had been sitting out the front of their house for 20+ years so breaking it wasn’t an option,” Huntley told Storyful.“Little bit of coaxing and I got the little fella out. The Philippines has documented six cases of the South African coronavirus variant, its health ministry said on Tuesday, raising concern among its experts that the current vaccines might be less effective.
