Listen to music made by spiderwebs

Music made by spiderwebs

Researchers have created

3D models of spiderwebs

to listen for spider signals

They then recreate the sounds

with the help of computers and algorithms

(SOUNDBITE) (English) MARKUS BUEHLER, Ph.D., MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, SAYING:

"The melodies are really the kind of relationships that the spider would also experience. And so we can begin to feel a little bit like a spider in that way."

Silk from a spiderweb is five times

stronger than steel

The world of spiders is not audible

to the human ear

But artificial intelligence helps

solve some of the mystery

This could lead to innovations

in construction and repair

Scientists hope to one day communicate with spiders
