STORY: Lisbon resembled a tourist city out of season on Saturday (August 22), as the Portuguese capital prepared to host the UEFA Champions League final as a ghost match on Sunday (August 23).
With the final taking place without spectators, the city remained without fans despite two of the world's biggest club teams, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint Germain facing off in Benfica Stadium the next day.
One of the few fans sporting soccer T-shirts in the city, Franz Lachermaier, a Bayern fan from Munich, was only coincidentally in the city, their holiday had been prepared long before. He said the atmosphere in the city was strange.
"It is certainly very unusual, you just don't see any football fans here in the city. It's a pity."
Erika Martins, who runs a restaurant on the main Rossio square agreed - she said they were setting up screens but expected more locals to come as there simply weren't any fans in the city.
