Watch: Lisa Banes has died aged 65
The American actor had been in a critical condition at Mount Sinai Morningside hospital after being struck by the motorised scooter in New York City earlier this month.
A representative for Banes told Entertainment Tonight: "We are heartsick over Lisa's tragic and senseless passing.
"She was a woman of great spirit, kindness and generosity and dedicated to her work, whether on stage or in front of a camera and even more so to her wife, family and friends. We were blessed to have had her in our lives."
The Gone Girl actor – who played the Rosamund Pike character's mother in the 2014 box office hit – suffered a head injury when she was hit by a scooter while crossing the street at about 6.30pm on the evening on Friday 4 June.
Actor and director Seth MacFarlane was among those to pay tribute to Banes, writing: "I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes’ passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year. Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss…"
Singer Jill Sobule tweeted: "Just busted. Lisa Banes was magnificent, hilarious, and big-hearted – always helped me though the hard times. She was so beloved by so many."
Banes's wife Kathryn Kranhol previously told the New York Daily News: "If anyone has any information about the scooter driver, we ask them to please call police."
The NYPD said in a statement: "On Friday, June 4, 2021 at approximately 1833 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian struck at the intersection of West 64 Street and Amsterdam Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a 65-year-old female pedestrian lying on the roadway with severe head trauma.
"Further investigation determined the pedestrian was attempting to cross Amsterdam Avenue with the pedestrian signal in her favour, when a scooter did pass the red traffic signal and strike the pedestrian, knocking her to the roadway.
"The scooter then fled the location, continuing north bound. There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing."
Banes had a prominent acting career spanning 40 years across theatre, TV and film.
