Lionsgate's Creepy “The Strangers” TikTok Livestream Gets Shut Down After Being Deemed Too Disturbing

A creepy livestream to promote the horror film The Strangers - Chapter 1 was temporarily banned on TikTok.

At about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, Lionsgate's official livestream was shut down, as the social media platform alerted about violations of "dangerous activities and challenges."

In a screengrab of the livestream shared with PEOPLE, viewers in the comment section called out the creepy content, with one fan writing, "STOP I DONT LIKE THIS." The shadowy footage showed a masked person holding a sign with a reference to the movie: "Is Tamara Here?"

About the snafu, Riverdale alum Madelaine Petsch, who stars in the new Strangers film, says simply, "Ooops!"

The alert from TikTok noted: "We do not allow showing or promoting dangerous activities and challenges. This includes dares, games, tricks, inappropriate use of dangerous tools, eating substances that are harmful to one's health, or similar activities that may lead to significant physical harm."

The Strangers - Chapter 1 is inspired by the 2008 film that starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. Petsch and Froy Gutierrez star as a couple on a road trip whose car breaks down in an sketchy small town.

The pair are "forced to spend the night in a remote cabin," and "panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive."

Aside from the TikTok-flagged livestream, the marketing campaign for The Strangers has featured some other unusual tactics. The costumed killer characters were spotted at Coachella in April, and Ring camera footage of the trio stalking doorsteps have gone viral online.

On her Instagram Stories May 8, Petsch, 29, expressed excitement on sharing the film (and its planned sequels) with fans, saying she has "never worked so hard on something in my career."

"Being able to edit and mix these movies has been the coolest thing with one of the most badass producers (and friends) in the game," wrote the actress. "I'm so thankful to the people at the helm of this for trusting me so deeply in every step of the process. I'm so excited to share chapter one with you so soon!"

The Strangers - Chapter 1 is in theaters May 17.
