Lines of People Wait at Testing Site as State of Emergency Declared in Washington

A winding line of people waiting at a COVID-19 testing site was seen in Washington on Monday, December 20, as Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a state of emergency.

Footage filmed by Allison McCague shows the line wrapped around Farragut Square.

“No surprise here in DC … we’ve got 1.5 hour-long plus waits for COVID testing,” McCague wrote in a post on Twitter.

Other posts on social media commented on the wait in the same location, with one user saying the testing site had been ‘empty for weeks’ before Monday morning.

Mayor Bowser announced a state of emergency for the city on Monday, including mandatory vaccination for city government employees and contractors as well as plans to reinstate the city’s indoor mask mandate on January 31.
