Line Wraps Around Several City Blocks as New Yorkers Cast Ballots
New Yorkers waited in line for hours to cast ballots on October 26 as the city entered its third day of early voting, prompting Mayor Bill de Blasio to call on the city’s Board of Elections (BOE) to “step up” and make immediate adjustments.
The first two days of early voting across New York City brought out more than 193,000 people to the polls, according the BOE.
In a daily briefing on October 26, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio said, “Right now we’ve got a problem. The Board of Elections was clearly not prepared for this kind of turnout, and needs to make adjustments immediately.” The mayor proposed the BOE extend voting hours for people and deploy more voting machines.
