Lindsay Mendez Says It Was ‘So Special’ to Have Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff in Her Wedding (Exclusive)
The three actors star together in ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ on Broadway
Broadway star Lindsay Mendez was happy to have her Merrily We Roll Along costars by her side when she said "I do."
Mendez, 41, married fellow actor J. Alex Brinson on April 22 in New York City, and Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff both had special roles in the ceremony. The Harry Potter star, 34, served as ring bearer while Groff, 39, was officiant.
While attending the 2024 Tony Awards Meet the Nominees press junket on Thursday, May 2, Mendez told PEOPLE that her two costars were with her from the start of her love story with Brinson so it was only fitting that they were present when the couple made it official at their wedding.
"They were with me right when I started dating my husband and have been with me through a lot of just that season of my life and always were rooting for us and they're uncles to my daughter, and it wouldn't have been the same without them," Mendez says of Radcliffe and Groff. "Jonathan moonlights marrying people, so that felt easy. Dan handing the rings, he does that in the show, so he gets a lot of practice. So I just said, 'You can do that.' "
"It was so special to have them part of it," she adds.

After an 18-week off-Broadway run that wrapped in January 2023, Mendez, Radcliffe and Groff have been leading the first-ever Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along since Oct. 10, 2023. The show, which is set to end its run on July 7, 2024, has picked up seven Tony Award nominations including individual nods for each of the three actors.
Mendez tells PEOPLE the trio has forged a special bond while sharing the stage for so many nights. "We've gotten so close. I think the show naturally breeds it," she says. "From what I hear of everyone who's ever done it, they've always been close to their little trio."
"But man, to have this experience of doing it off Broadway, doing it on Broadway. These years that have gone by where we've had so many life events happen, obviously, and stuff happened between the three of us, and we've all gotten to be there for that," she continued of her costars.

Mendez says she, Radcliffe and Groff have a "deep and real" love and connection, which "makes the show so easy to do for us." It's an energy that translates to their performances onstage, she notes.
"It's so fun to get to share that with the audience," Mendez says. "It's really wonderful."
After tying the knot at Bethesda Terrace in Central Park last month, Mendez and Brinson have another happy occasion to anticipate. The actress announced on Instagram in March that the couple is expecting their first child together. The baby, who is due in the fall, will join Mendez's 2-year-old daughter, Lucy, from a previous relationship.
"Our family band is expanding! And we are bursting with joy! J and I can’t wait to make Lucy a big sister and welcome our new baby this fall," Mendez captioned the post.
She told PEOPLE at the Tony Awards event that she's having a pinch-me moment, with so much to celebrate in her life.
"I got married a week ago, I'm having a baby and I'm in a Broadway show that's at the Tonys. Couldn't be better," she says.
